Business Process Testing

Model-based test tools use models as the abstraction for test design instead of keywords. Model-based functional test specification may do the same thing for embedded systems – like telephones – that keyword testing can do for business applications. Validata uses a hybrid approach based on using both models and keywords.

It is built on a data-centric Generic Modelling approach. It employs this modeling method to define the structure of its repository and how it is accessed. In effect, the model represents its behaviour and the test asset it stores. In addition to using Generic Modelling as the basis for Validata itself, it also uses Generic Modelling to represent the behaviour and data of the application under test. Essentially, Validata describes logical business processes independently of the physical implementation of the system.

To communicate between the modeled world and real world objects, such as test data and the application under test, VALIDATA uses Maps which describe the links between objects in the repository and objects in the external physical world, and Adaptors which read the Maps, make any necessary data transformations and communicate with the external objects.
